We’ve all seen the cliches on TV where brides dress their besties up in scary bright pink chiffon dresses – apparently in order to make themselves seem prettier in comparison – but in real life (I hope) we don’t all want to traumatise our friends by forcing them to wear something ridiculous and we really  don’t want our bridal party looking anything less than photographable on the big day. You want them to look great.

Making the right choice when it comes to bridal party dresses can be rather tricky, especially if your bridal party isn’t made up of triplets who all look fantastic wearing the same thing.

Here are some of your choices and a little bit about bridesmaids dresses:

Typically the easiest and most efficient way to get this done is to do it yourself. You choose the material for the dresses and the design and you have them made up. Pretty simple. The only problem is that not all styles (or colours for that matter) match all people. Your twiggy friend from college may look fantastic in your chosen design while your slightly larger BFF from work might end up feeling like a beached whale. So, while it may feel easiest to sort it all out yourself, do remember that quite a few considerations need to be made before you make your final decision.

A cool way to get the dresses sorted out is for you to choose your material and then get each of your girls to design their own dress. You can, of course, set a couple of parameters (like no designs too far above the knee) and then allow the girls the freedom to come up with something that uniquely suits their style and body shape. This way everyone gets to look great and feel comfortable in their wedding wear, but there is still some uniformity.

Having the bridesmaids wear mismatched dresses is becoming an increasingly popular trend which also allows for each girl to show off their own unique style. This works especially well when you have a large bridal party as the uniformity then becomes a little more obvious. Your bridesmaids will basically all wear different styles as well as colours, but the colours will match your chosen wedding palette.
